The Eighth ACA Anniversary
As we approach the eighth anniversary of the passage of the Affordable Care Act, Republican lawmakers are relentlessly continuing their war on health care.
While Republicans have been busy trying to sabotage our care — driving up costs and driving down coverage to do it — more than 13 million Americans are losing coverage because of the Republican tax plan, including 300,000 people from New Jersey.
Despite the unimaginable costs to his constituents, Representative Tom MacArthur voted for the TrumpTax and supported repeal of the ACA.
His votes have made it clear that Representative MacArthur wants to undermine our access to health care to pay for massive tax cuts for millionaires and big pharmaceutical companies. The bills he has voted for will increase premiums by 10 percent each year, eliminate protections for people with pre-existing conditions, and create an age tax on patients aged 50 and over.
Right now, more than 560,000 New Jersey adults still lack coverage — that’s three times less than before the ACA was passed. If Representative MacArthur had his way, thousands more would lack access to quality, affordable insurance.
As patients and constituents, New Jerseyans should continue fighting back against these efforts to undermine the ACA and threaten our care. This year, we must tell lawmakers that we will hold them accountable for protecting our care — and MacArthur will hear our stories.
